TRACO had their official ground-breaking ceremony with Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, State Representative Gene Maddox, and State Senator John Bulloch in attendance on October 31,2006. The ground-breaking ceremony also included TRACO management and staff as well as many other representatives from the city and county.
Governor Perdue expressed his appreciation for the surrounding community, on behalf of the State of Georgia, for all of their efforts in preparing for this major advancement in Bainbridge, specifically referencing the Development Authority's critical role in the process. He also stated that the 300+ job openings that TRACO is expected to bring to the Decatur County area would make a major difference in Decatur County's employment scene. Governor Perdue called TRACO's arrival in Bainbridge a "good example of balanced growth across the state" referencing the fact that the majority of economic growth in Georgia is happening outside of the metro areas.
TRACO President, M. Robert Randall also spoke at the ground-breaking ceremony. Mr. Randall stated "We are delighted to be here in Decatur County and delighted to be in the state of Georgia." Randall continued by saying that he was impressed with the "can-do" attitude of the community and also expressed a special "thank you" to Georgia Power. According to Randall, "They are a big player. They can make or break a deal like this."
